Information Security Controls and Standards for the Payment Card Industry

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) consists of a minimum set of necessary requirements that every merchant and/or service provider must meet in order to protect the cardholder data of their customers.PCI DSS is designed to protect the cardholder and requires that all companies who accept, process, store or transmit credit card information are to maintain specific levels of security compliance based on the volume of transactions they process. PCI DSS and related security standards are administered by the PCI Security Standards Council, which was founded by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc.
